Reviews
We had an amazing stay in the front left dome with breathtaking views of a sunset and sunrise in the hot tub!
The dome was cosy, well furnished and clean. Good internet signal.
The kitchen is well equipped and we were able to cook our own food.
The host is lovely and easily contacted but gives you privacy too.
Thank you Germana for a lovely stay 🏝️
We felt scammed since the pictures online rarely show the basic tents. It is way overpriced for its amenities, prices should be reduced accordingly. After all, it is not a hotel!
There are 2 different types of tents, luxus and basic. Most of the pictures are of the luxus, way pricier option (!).
About the basic tents:
Booking says there is a private bathroom, which is outside and uncovered. Theres a shared kitchen and the tent itself has a big comfortable bed, but no heating or air conditioning. The views are great though.
Most of the reviews do not reflect reality:
First of all, the owner is so greedy. Only money matters for her. No money, no smile 🤮 business is business as she kept repeating. She is very authoritarian and cannot stand discussion. You pay and shut up!
We paid but prefer to leave at once. Of course no refund.
Morover, the environnement is not as beautiful as shown in the misleading pictures. Expect to have a view of another tent or the city. Ask before!!!!
For those who are not very demanding and are ready to waste money this may be suitable despite the exorbitant price regarding the service.
You will be next to the owner's house and surrounded by fences. A remote glamping dream in pictures, a very disapointing reality.
I can't say enough positive things about this place and Germana the Owner, but here are the highlights. The pods (and hot tubs) are clean, comfortable, and private. The breakfast is European but substantial. Germana is incredibly flexible, gracious, and accommodating. The views, especially at sunset, are immaculate. You can't go wrong with this place.
I'm editing this review to address some of the negative reviews this place has gotten. They can be dismissed as follows: read the title. This is "glamping." It's meant to be a luxurious version of pitching a tent on the side of an untouched hill in Madeira to watch the ocean and the stars with minimal light pollution. If your towels seemed dirty or used, okay I hear you. But to complain about not having 4-star hotel amenities at a place with Glamping in the title just means your reading comprehension is lacking.
Germana is so kind and wants your stay to be perfect. The dome was everything we wanted for our stay… we wished we booked for the whole stay on the island! Hot tub was perfect after a long day of hiking. Breakfast every morning was an added bonus with fresh fruit. Highly recommend staying here :) thanks again Germana!!
The host is very kind and patient! We were a bit unluky with the weather and wanted to leave a day earlier. She was very kind to accept that and refund the last night. The dome is very nice with jacuzzi and view. Also the kitchen is equipped with the basics you need! We only missed some curtains over the small windows in the dome to make it a bit darker
This review is to serve as a warning to any considering a stay at Soul Glamping.
I will preface this by stating I never leave bad reviews. I believe in working things out, human to human and have found that to be the best way.
We stayed here during storm Oscar which was no problem. Storms are part of the earths cycles and are to be expected.
Besides the storm, the dome was simply not maintained.
The wood burning stove was faulty and broken and only huge chunks of wet wood were provided without any kindling to properly start a fire (an amenity that helped us make our decision to stay here). Then the dome filled with smoke because the flu isn’t attached, leading to rusty water coming through.
There is a lot of mold throughout the dome, it’s not properly ventilated.
No additional towels/linens were provided even though it’s impossible for anything to dry due to constant indoor condensation, no napkins or paper towels, no hair dryer, no lotion/conditioner, broken toilet knob, floor and walls stayed wet and slippery the whole time.
The second night of our stay, after the storm had passed, our neighbors were shouting and continually waking us until 1:00am. We reached out to the host via message (how we had communicated the whole time) and got no response.
At this point we were on two nights, no sleep.
This is where the real problem began.
We were gaslighted by the host.
Her responses were sarcastic, snide and minimizing.
As small business owners who have traveled the world and gained many wonderful friends, including hosts of every place we’ve stayed, to see a host act so unprofessionally and childish was shocking.
She blamed us for not calling her (even though we had never made phone contact)
She said “she’s not Jesus and even Jesus was crucified” (what??)
She attempted to overcharge for breakfast which was clearly stated in conversation as included.
She attempted to manipulate conversation that was about the noise disturbance saying we were angry about the storm.
We were clear from the beginning it wasn’t about the storm, rather her handling of our needs that she refused to meet.
We finally asked to leave and be refunded only for the night we weren’t staying.
She refused.
And worse, went on a long tirade about how other people were suffering and we had no right to complain about not receiving proper service and care for a stay we paid for (not inexpensive).
It was truly a strange interaction that left us a bit dumbfounded.
Storms are stressful.
We thoroughly understand that.
But the treatment we received at the hands of leadership at Soul Glamping is inexcusable.
I didn’t enjoy my stay. It was a Bad experience, i don’t recommend it.
It’s overrated for simple reasons :
- No attention to small details : The towels/bathrobe are old and very used even the slippers. if you arrive late at night, you will not find something to eat or drink like water for example. there s nothing as treats
- the breakfast is bad- no eggs, nothing healthy (except fruits which you’ll receive only one piece of each and one yogurt even though the breakfast is meant for two people)
For the view : you need to contact the manager before reserving and ask for the dome in the front specially the right one with the sunset view. That what she said 🙃
Overall, if you want to come here just lower your expectations, the place looks fancy from the outside, but in reality it’s has nothing to do with that.
